Welcome to our school!
Welcome to the Scandinavian International School of Madrid.
We are delighted that you have found our website. We are a dynamic and growing international school for children aged 18 months to 18 years. We have a Scandinavian section that teaches in Swedish and an International section that teaches in English. The school is owned and operated by a non-profit parents’ association.
Joy is at the center of everything we do. When students feel safe and happy they are open to learning and this gives us a solid foundation for academic success.
The school is characterized by a strong sense of community and we believe in freedom, respect and solidarity. We strive to create an atmosphere where students dare to make mistakes, from which we can all learn. We give our students a voice and encourage them to express their opinions. We show students that we believe in them so that they can believe in themselves and grow.
The teacher density is high and the school is small and family oriented. Each child is unique and receives the care and attention they need. We love music and work with a musical profile.
Come and visit us. My colleagues and I will be happy to show you around and tell you more about us. Visiting us will give you an idea of what it means to be a student here. The energy is contagious. Don’t hesitate to contact us to make an appointment.

Vision and objectives
Our vision is to be a school that both young people and adults look forward to attending, a school to be proud of. We promote lifelong learning and believe that joy and self-confidence are the basis for good academic results.
Our Scandinavian approach to learning for children and young people is based on the belief that each person is unique and that each student has the right to develop according to his or her own abilities. Through a high teacher density and individualized teaching, we offer our students good conditions to grow at their own pace.

Our pedagogy
At the school we learn for life and we want to give our students a good foundation to become happy and responsible citizens in an ever-changing world.
We encourage our students to think for themselves and to express their opinions. We teach our students to respect different points of view, to respect our environment and nature and to empathize with others.
Through varied and enjoyable teaching, we give our students the best tools to continue learning in the future.

Our values
We believe that each student is unique and has the right to receive attention and respect in a safe and stable environment. We show students that we believe in them so that they can believe in themselves and grow.
Working from a Scandinavian value base also means that we attach great importance to fundamental values such as democracy, sustainability, innovation, creativity and free thinking, equality, transparency and respect for dissent. These values permeate our entire organization.

Our school environment
We are a small family school with about 400 students. Both students and staff come from many different countries and backgrounds. Being a multicultural and multilingual school enriches our daily activities in countless ways.
Students from both sections often come together in a variety of activities during and after school hours. Likewise, students of different ages meet in activities. Thus, encounters between different languages and cultures are part of our daily life. Sustainability is also a natural part of our daily life, both in teaching and on school grounds.

Our Staff
Our teachers and staff are our main resource. Many people apply to work with us, so we are fortunate to be able to hire well-trained staff with a high level of expertise. This is also reflected in the school’s good academic results.
We are committed to being a workplace where teachers and staff thrive and we actively work to achieve this.
When our staff thrive, so do our students.

School management
The school’s management team consists of the head teacher, two heads of the international section (Primary School and Secondary School), a school health officer and a technical director (director técnico).
The school management is responsible for managing the educational and daily activities of the school.
